The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs joins the nation and the diplomatic community in mourning the passing of one of Kenya’s most distinguished diplomats, Ambassador Boaz Kidiga Mbaya, CBS, MBS, who was laid to rest today in his hometown of Gaigedi Village, Sabatia Sub-County, Vihiga County.
During the solemn burial ceremony, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Korir SingOei, paid a heartfelt tribute to Ambassador Mbaya through a speech delivered on his behalf by Ambassador Patrick Wamoto, MBS, Ag. Director General of the Foreign Service Academy. In his message, Dr. SingOei described the late Ambassador as “a towering figure in Kenya’s diplomatic history whose contributions have profoundly shaped the nation’s foreign policy and regional stature.”
He emphasized that Ambassador Mbaya’s legacy remains woven into the fabric of Kenya’s diplomacy and recalled his instrumental role in laying the foundation for the Foreign Service Academy, which today continues to train and mentor the next generation of diplomats.
“His intellectual depth, policy foresight, and unrelenting patriotism left an indelible mark on this Ministry. We are proud to walk in the footsteps of a man who personified the very ideals we seek to instill in our diplomatic corps,” the PS noted.
He also celebrated the late Ambassador’s role in peacebuilding across the continent, highlighting how his steady leadership contributed to stability in conflict-prone regions and lifted Kenya’s profile as a regional mediator.
The PS called on young diplomats to draw inspiration from Amb. Mbaya’s work ethic, humility, and devotion to country.
The funeral service was attended by Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, local political leaders, and a wide delegation of current and former ambassadors.
The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the broader diplomatic fraternity. Kenya has lost a statesman, a visionary, and a patriot whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of public servants and diplomats.
